Unemployment down, Executive appointments up in Northern Ireland

Wednesday, July 17th, 2013

The managing partner at one of Northern Ireland’s leading executive recruiters, Gilpin Executive Search, has reported a 25% increase in business in the first six months of 2013 compared to the same period last year.

Roger Gilpin of Gilpin Executive Search said: “Within executive recruitment we have witnessed a significant uplift in Executive appointments. Late last year companies began to seek talent to deliver new strategies for new markets. This was the forerunner to the increased intake in recruits at all levels generally, this year. Companies are recruiting and there are roles out there, but the days of boom salaries do not appear to be present and remuneration packages are more modest generally. Experience and criteria demands are very specific and there is less moving between sectors at Executive level than previously.

“We have also noticed that Executives whose previous roles had been made redundant are transitioning quicker into new roles this year than they did in 2011 or 2012. Manufacturing companies and export services businesses are doing well.  Niche construction companies are recruiting and there are business development executive roles in the construction sector for the export markets.”

Mr Gilpin’s remarks follow today’s release of the Government’s monthly Labour Market Survey which highlight that the number of people seeking unemployment benefit in Northern Ireland dropped by 800 in June to 63,000.  The seasonally adjusted rate remains at 7.8%, the same as the average for the entire UK
