Only good looking people need apply

They say every business needs a unique selling point.

One online recruitment company launched recently certainly believes it has found theirs- it only offers jobs to good looking people.

Dating site has started a spin-off recruitment service as, straight from the horse’s mouth, “Numerous studies have shown that consumers tend to respond more positively and are more receptive to attractive people.”

While, that site certainly believes it is one’s good looks that employers want, realistic (and non-chauvinistic) employers have identified the top qualities they are looking for when recruiting:

  • Relevant skills. Be sure to highlight your skills by qualifying and/or quantifying how you used them to be successful in the past.

  • Functional experience. Prospective employers want to know that you are prepared to handle situations that might arise within their own organisations, and that you have been successful in dealing with them in previous roles.
  • Industry experience. Having industry experience is important to prospective employers.  However, if you do not, demonstrate in your CV that you understand the industry challenges and dynamics.
  • Measurable accomplishments. Businesses want to know how you have contributed to success in your previous company. Use specific measurements to define your achievements, and when applicable use figures, £’s and/or percentages.

Your CV must catch the eye of the prospective employer to make them want to know more and invite you to interview.

We can’t all be blessed with model good looks, so it will only be through perfecting your CV, will you make the “cut.”
