As we draw towards the end of the year, many of us will hear the familiar, “Any New Year’s Resolutions?”
This might be giving up a bad habit, going to gym more often, or trying to eat a little more healthily.
But there are also business resolutions we should consider in order to achieve both high productivity and employee satisfaction in 2014.
Here are some New Year’s Resolutions for you mull over your mulled wine.
- Give more Respect: Nothing encourages good performance of team members more than knowing that their professional talents and capabilities are recognised and valued by “the management”.
- Set Reasonable and Appropriate Priorities: Review priorities with your team and help them to understand the best way to support the organisation’s business goals.
- Don’t Be A Micro-Manager. Allow projects (or tasks) to be done the best way, not necessarily your way. This gives your team the freedom to be creative and come up with strategies you may not have considered.
- Provide Opportunities for Professional Development. Your team members will become more valuable to your organisation if they have the opportunity to further their professional and personal skills as they seek to achieve the business goals.
- Involve others more: Yes, you might be the owner or director, but you also want employee engagement. Involve staff more in goals and planning so they become more personally invested in the success of the company.
Take this Christmas period to set some attainable New Year’s resolutions. You could then be celebrating not only at Christmas, but also well into 2014.
